Helping to shape Deptford’s destiny was top of the agenda when the Convoys Wharf Community Liaison Forum met this month. Local people attended a workshop where they were asked to identify their priorities to ensure the new developments integrated well with the needs of the existing community. Destination Strategy expert, Dan Anderson, of Fourth Street explained that to make the most of the place developing exercise it was important to decide the role the community would play. For example did Deptford want to be where artists created their works or the international gallery where it was displayed? Having split into two groups to gather ideas the consensus from the meeting was that the focus of the new development should be about including the history of Deptford and aspirations of local people ensuring they benefitted from access to the new space.
Earlier, the meeting was given a progress report on construction works on the site. Progress is continuing on the jetty. A commitment was given to try to minimise noise and disruption by focussing building activity when local people would be at work.
